Registered psychotherapist at Three Lamps. Long-term individual work with emotional pain, early relational trauma, and questions of identity.
Ataya aims to meet people where they are — with respect, openness, and warmth. The work is mainly conversational and psychodynamic: connecting past and present, noticing what happens in the therapy relationship itself, and making room for parts of a person that may contradict each other. She also pays attention to the body and the nervous system, so that feeling becomes more available, not only thinking.
She has a particular interest in early relational trauma, significant loss and grief, depression, and life transitions. Of Indian descent and born in Aotearoa, she is attentive to cultural and ethnic identity, power, and intersectionality. Treatment is usually long-term. Daytime appointments Tuesday to Friday; she does not offer evenings.
Registered with PBANZ. Master of Psychotherapy, AUT. Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Commerce, Victoria University of Wellington. ACC-registered (ISSC). The first meeting is a consultation to see whether the work is a fit.
